Vitrectomy Surgery

What is Vitrectomy Surgery?

Vitrectomy is a delicate outpatient surgery where we remove the gel (vitreous) inside the eye to treat problems like retinal detachments, macular holes, or bleeding from diabetic eye disease.

Why it's done

Removing the vitreous allows us to fix damage, remove scar tissue, or clear blood that's blocking vision.

What to expect

The procedure is done in an operating room under local or general anesthesia. Recovery varies, and you may need to position in a specific way for a few days after surgery, but you'll typically go home the same day and follow up closely with Dr. Shah to monitor healing.
