What Happens During the Visit

1

Vision Testing

We'll check your vision and assess how your eyes are functioning.
2

Dilation

Your pupils will be dilated with special eye drops so we can carefully examine the retina. This may cause blurry vision and light sensitivity for a few hours.
3

Retinal Imaging

We may take high-resolution scans or photos of your retina to evaluate any disease or damage in detail. These tests are quick and painless.
4

Comprehensive Retina Exam

Dr. Shah will perform a thorough examination of the back of your eye and explain his findings.
5

Discussion & Treatment Plan

If treatment is needed, Dr. Shah will walk you through your options, explain the benefits and risks, and answer any questions you may have.
6

In-Office Treatment (If Needed)

Some patients may receive same-day treatments such as an intravitreal injection or laser therapy—these are quick and well-tolerated procedures.

How Long Will It Take?

Your first visit may take 1.5 to 2 hours, especially if you need additional testing or treatment. Follow-up visits are typically shorter.

We're Here for You

We know seeing a retina specialist can feel overwhelming. Our team is here to guide you with compassion, transparency, and expert care. Don't hesitate to ask questions at any point—we want you to feel fully supported.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my eyes be dilated at every visit?

+

Dilation is typically necessary for comprehensive retina examinations, but not always required for follow-up visits. Dr. Shah will determine if dilation is needed based on your specific condition and treatment plan.

Can I drive after my appointment?

+

If your eyes are dilated, your vision may be blurry and you'll be sensitive to light for 2-4 hours. We recommend bringing a driver or using alternative transportation for your safety.

What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule?

+

Please contact our office at least 24 hours in advance if you need to reschedule. This helps us accommodate other patients and ensures you get the care you need.
